An NGO for Wholesome Development for the People of Barak Valley
Seva Kendra, Silchar stood with the community during and post COVID 19 working to provide emergency necessities to victims of the epidemic.
Agencies who have supported the organization during the emergency are- SRW, Caritas, Arise, Fundacio, Grand Lancy, KFB.
Seva Kendra, Silchar also found an opportunity in the midst of the pandemic to seek income generation activities and so with the help of the partners we distributed 19 tailoring machines to SHGs and Youth groups to stitch masks and sell it in the market.
Flood Relief
Due to the incessant downpour in southern Assam the flash flood on May 2022 left the people, residing on the bank of rivers in the Cachar District, face severe flash flood and many were left homeless. Whereas the hilly regions in and around the region experienced cyclones and landslides. Seva Kendra team have visited some of the locations and had reached out 7150 most affected households with the financial support of SRW(USA), Diocese of Aizawl, CRS – Catholic Relief Services, NEDSSS, CASA – Church’s Auxiliary for Social Action, KFB, Reliance Foundation and SEEDS INDIA.
Intervention
• Seeds India intervened in the Kalain and Katigorah block and better shelter installation was carried out. Seeds in collaboration with Seva Kendra Silchar and District Disaster Management Authority Cachar installed shelters in 8 GPs under these blocks.
• Seva Kendra Silchar partnered with KFB to help the neediest families with Dry ration, Wash kits and livelihood support. Dry ration was provided in Udharbond, Banskandi and Lakhipur Block. Emergency WASH kits were distributed among adolescent girls and pregnant women. Poor fish farmers were supported with fishlings who lost their investment due to the flood.
• NEDSSS, CASA, Reliance and Sisters Rising Worldwide (SRW) distributed dry ration, hygiene and wash kits in collaboration with Seva Kendra Silchar to victims of cyclone and flood. Health Camps were also conducted in some villages.
• CRS intervened in the Kalain and Silchar Block and has reached out to 800 families who were considered as the worst affected families in the field, received immediate support through cash transfer. Shelter Restoration also carried out in21 villages.
